Melissa & Doug Flip to Win Memory Game Cards

My daughter received this Melissa & Doug Flip to Win Memory Game as a present. It’s a wonderful game where players take turnings finding a match by opening two doors. It can be played on-the-go and comes with interchangeable game cards with different themes.

While the included cards kept the game interesting, after a week or so, I realized my daughter had memorized all the cards.

I decided to make some my own cards. I started with basic shapes and animals, but I quickly realized that I could sneak in some educational cards as well.

Along with the shapes and animals, I made printable cards for colours, numbers and letters that you can download and print out to use on your own!

You can also make your own Memory Game Board by reading my post here.

Once you’ve downloaded and printed out the cards, just use a pair of scissors to cut around the border. You can glue them to card stock to make them a bit sturdier, but I slipped them right into the game board without any issues.

The colour card helps practice recognizing colours and for older children, learn how to spell the colours.

To make the game more fun and interactive, my daughter and I sometimes shout out the shapes as we flip the doors open, name the animal or make the sound the animal makes. For the colour card, you can try to sound out the word for each colour.

Printable Memory Game Cards Numbers

These number cards really helped with recognizing and reading numbers, especially the numbers after ten. I found that my daughter got a lot of practice count up to 10, but struggled after that. With these number cards, we were able to practice recognizing the larger numbers while still having fun.

The three alphabet cards are to match upper case letters to lower case letters. I pick a font where the lower case letters are closer to the written form of the letter (ex: the letter ‘a’).

There is also one blank card so you can make your own cards. Write, draw, or use stickers in pairs.
